Dynamic Traffic Competition in Atm Networks

چکیده

In todays heterogenous multimedia ATM networks, there are multiple network managers, multiple traffic types and every user exploits the network resources according to availability, performance and cost. Thus, there are many decision-makers competing each other, and each one tries to achieve the best for his own good. In order a decision-maker to take the best decisions, he should have accurate information about the network state. However, in todays high speed multimedia ATM networks, the network state changes very fast and abruptly. Thus, a dynamic network model should be considered in the analysis and optimization of these high speed networks. In this paper, we first model the dynamics of ATM networks using both the virtual call and the cell processes in a two-level dynamic model. Then we provide a dynamic game framework for the resource sharing problems in ATM networks with competing traffic. Finally, we formulate the dynamic game problem both as a Nonlinear Complementarity Problem (NCP) and as a Variational Inequality Problem (VIP).

Dynamic Programming Based Link Cost Function and Load Estimation Method for ATM Links

In connection-oriented networks dynamic routing schemes are designed to improve the call blocking performance by introducing network intelligence. An accurate model describing a networks statistical behaviour is the network Markov model. Based on this model the theory of dynamic programming for Markov processes (also called the Markov Decision Process theory, MDP) has in the past successfully b...

DRA: a new buffer management scheme for wireless atm networks using aggregative large deviation principle

In this paper, we present a buffer management scheme called Dynamic Resource Allocation (DRA) that provides TCP traffic control guarantees to VCs carrying multiple dynamic discard thresholds (Multiple Dynamic Thresholds—MDT) over a wireless CDMA ATM network. It is assumed that we have TCP wireless ATM networks integrating the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). A major task activity related t...

Parallel Simulation of Atm Networks: Case Study and Lessons Learned

This paper summarizes our experiences in developing and using a cell-level ATM network simulator called ATM-TN. The ATM-TN simulator was developed as part of TeleSim, a collaborative research project aimed at developing high performance parallel simulation tools for the design and analysis of broadband ATM networks. The ATM-TN simulator provides the fundamental platform for ongoing research in ...

Analysis of Traffic Measurements in the VISTAnet Gigabit Networking Testbed

The characterization of ATM traffic is particularly important for developing and validating traffic models for the analysis of congestion control mechanisms, communication network protocols, and architectures for ATM networks. Unfortunately, little is known about the actual behavior of ATM traffic, since few ATM networks have been built and instrumented for measuring traffic. In this paper, we ...

Analysis of the Overhead of Saturation Routing for ATM Networks

This paper shows that the virtual path selection by a saturation (flooding) technique is a viable adaptive routing solution for substantial data exchanges in an ATM network. Adaptive routing algorithms are the leading techniques used today in Packet Data Networks. Typically, current measurements are used to derive non-congested new routes for future traffic. However, often, current measurements...
